2024 Fantasy Outlook
Kelce has been the gold standard at the tight end position for the better part of the last decade, but he looked like he lost a step for much of the 2023 regular season and finished 16 receiving yards short of an eighth consecutive 1,000-yard campaign. His postseason performance suggested concerns over the 34-year-old tight end slowing down were overblown, however, as Kelce compiled 355 yards and three touchdowns in four playoff games to help the Chiefs capture their second straight Super Bowl. Kelce missed the 2023 season opener due to a knee injury and was held out of the regular-season finale since the Chiefs were locked into their playoff seed, but he suited up for all 15 games in between, marking the 10th consecutive campaign in which he’s played at least that many games. Even if Kelce’s best days are behind him, the star TE is still locked in as the most trusted target for QB Patrick Mahomes, as Kelce’s 121 targets, 93 catches and 984 receiving yards all led the Chiefs in 2023, and each mark ranked in the top four among NFL tight ends. Kelce's mix of production and availability gives him an elite floor, especially for a tight end, and he could even be due for a bounce-back season in the touchdown department. The 6-foot-5 TE's five TDs last season tied his lowest mark in the last seven years, and he scored at least eight times in each of the other five seasons over that span. Read Past Outlooks
Inks two-year extension
Kelce and the Chiefs agreed to terms Monday on a two-year extension that makes him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL, Ian Rapoport of NFL Network reports.
ANALYSIS
The exact terms of Kelce's new extension have yet to be disclosed, but coming off another Super Bowl title and heading into his age-35 season, Kelce's pay rate will top his position. The four-time All-Pro had logged seven consecutive seasons with at least 1,000 receiving yards before being held to a 93-984-5 receiving line in 2023, but in Kansas City's four postseason contests he operated in prime form, scoring three touchdowns while never falling below 70 receiving yards. The Chiefs added veteran wideout Marquise Brown (heel) and rookie first-round pick Xavier Worthy this offseason, and both players are capable of taking the top off opposing defenses, which could open things up for Kelce during the 2024 campaign. Those additions may also foreshadow a more aggressive offensive game plan led by star quarterback Patrick Mahomes.

Latest Fantasy Rumors
GM believes he has good years left
Chiefs general manager Brett Veach believes Kelce could continue playing for another few years, Adam Teicher of ESPN.com reports. "The odds of someone playing this far into the thirties are very low, but it does happen, and it happens with just unicorns in the profession, and Travis is one of those," Veach said. "So, we'll just have to wait and see. But I've seen no signs of [Kelce] slowing down."
ANALYSIS
Veach's comments came after the team adjusted Kelce's deal, with his two-year, $34.25 million contract making him the highest-paid tight end in the NFL. The 34-year-old Kelce is still the gold standard at his position, as he came 16 yards shy of an eighth consecutive 1,000-yard season in 2023 before adding 355 yards and three touchdowns in four playoff games. Veach and the Chiefs are hoping that Kelce will still have more football in him after the expiration of this two-year contract.

Kelce’s name has become synonymous with consistent excellence. He reached 1,336 yards and double-digit touchdowns in three of the past five seasons, with receiving lines of 97-1,229-5 and 92-1,125-9 the other two years. Kelce’s the top target for the league’s best passer, Patrick Mahomes, and the 6-foot-5 tight end has shown no signs of slowing down at age 33, suiting up for at least 15 regular-season games every season besides his 2013 rookie campaign. Last year he had career highs for targets (152) and touchdowns (12), led the NFL in red-zone targets (32) and had 424 more yards (1,338) than any other tight end. While Father Time is bound to catch up to Kelce eventually, he hasn’t given us much reason to think it will happen this year. The gap between Kelce and the rest of the pack at tight end is even larger in full-PPR formats, as his 507 catches over the past five seasons are second most among all players behind only Davante Adams' 532, while another tight end doesn’t appear on that list until Zach Ertz with 361.
