Bo Nix

24-Year-Old QuarterbackQB
2024 Fantasy Outlook
The 12th overall pick in this year’s draft, Nix seemingly has little competition for the starting job in Denver with only career-backup Jarrett Stidham and first-round bust Zach Wilson standing in his way. Nix’s best attribute is avoiding negative plays, as he threw 26 INTs in five years as a collegiate starter and took 10 sacks in two years at Oregon. Nix is a skilled passer, though he doesn’t have the arm talent of others in his draft. Oregon’s offense didn’t ask him to do much downfield, instead feeding a heavy diet of screen passes, which is largely how he set the NCAA single-season record for completion percentage (77.4) last season. Indeed, his 6.8 average target depth was the lowest in this year’s draft. At 6-2, 214, Nix is athletic and can throw on the run, but he lacks an elite trait. Coach Sean Payton is keen on his quick release and processing ability fitting well in his offense -- a la Drew Brees when he no longer had the arm to attack deep -- and if anyone is NFL ready it should be Nix, who made an NCAA-record 61 QB starts. The Broncos drafted Oregon teammate Troy Franklin to join Courtland Sutton and an otherwise lackluster wideout corps, and Nix should at least have rushing upside after posting 1,613 yards and 38 TDs in college. The Broncos selected Nix in the first round of the 2024 NFL Draft, 12th overall.
ANALYSIS
The Broncos might have preferred to target Nix in a trade back, but it might have understandably scared them a bit when the Falcons shockingly selected fellow quarterback Michael Penix eighth overall, inflating the quarterback market at a time that the Broncos probably weren't expecting. Nix (6-foot-2, 214 pounds) in any case always made sense as Denver's eventual target, especially after dominating at Oregon the last two years (74 passing touchdowns to 10 interceptions and 20 rushing touchdowns in 27 games). His two years at Auburn before that were less promising, as the Tigers offense routinely struggled and Nix only threw for 23 touchdowns in his 21 games. Perhaps Nix's Auburn struggles can be forgiven since he was a true freshman/sophomore on a team with a lot of problems. Nix's fantasy upside could be considerable if his rushing activity carries over to the NFL level, and it seems like it should. Nix is unafraid and seasoned as a runner, but he might need to be as the Denver offense rebuilds.

Strong start to minicamp
QBDenver Broncos
May 12, 2024
Nix has made a strong first impression at Denver's rookie minicamp, connecting on multiple deep passes Saturday while consistently getting the ball out quickly, Nick Kosmider of The Athletic reports.
ANALYSIS
Nix didn't seem to struggle with the adjustment to taking snaps under center, which was a point of concern for the rookie quarterback coming from an Oregon offense that operated predominantly out of the shotgun. Coach Sean Payton was pleased with Nix's performance but is in no hurry to name a starting quarterback, as Denver intends to move forward with a rotation of Nix, Jarrett Stidham and Zach Wilson under center to begin OTAs.
