Could return Thursday
Verhaeghe, who missed Tuesday's win over Columbus due to an illness, is feeling better and could be available Thursday against the Penguins, Jameson Olive of the Panthers' official site reports.
ANALYSIS
Verhaeghe was a last-minute scratch against the Blue Jackets, but it appears his absence may be limited to a single contest. If he's able to go, look for Verhaeghe to return to a middle-six role and a spot on the No. 2 power-play unit versus Pittsburgh.

2020
Verhaeghe shocked many in the pandemic-shortened 2020-21 campaign by posting 18 goals and 36 points in 43 games. He continued his hot streak a year ago, finishing with career-best marks in goals (24), assist (31), points (55) and shots on goal (167) in 78 games. As good as Verhaeghe has been, he's not the type of player you want to bet on moving forward from a fantasy perspective. His average ice time dropped by a 1:41 a season ago, all the way down to 16:03 per game, while he managed just three power-play points all year. The Panthers remain loaded up front, but Verhaeghe's margin for error is minuscule given his lack of production with the man advantage. Let someone else take the plunge on draft day.
