2024 Fantasy Outlook
Hoskins had to be carted off the field during a Grapefruit League game last spring and it was later confirmed that he suffered a torn left ACL, as feared. The surgery to repair the injury knocked Hoskins out for the entirety of 2023. While there was talk that Hoskins could return for the World Series, the Phillies never made it that far, and as expected the team declined to extend him the qualifying offer after the season. Hoskins has been quite the productive hitter when healthy, blasting 148 home runs in 667 career MLB games to date, but the health concerns are significant (and only mounting) with Hoskins now on the wrong side of 30. He underwent Tommy John surgery at the end of 2020, needed abdominal surgery in 2021 and was coming off surgery to repair the meniscus in his right knee last spring before suffering the left knee injury. Latest Fantasy Rumors
Cubs still interested
The Cubs are still interested in signing Hoskins, even after acquiring Michael Busch, Jon Heyman of the New York Post reports.
ANALYSIS
Hoskins, recovering from a torn ACL, and the Cubs seemed like a natural fit early in the offseason, though Busch offers a potential solution to the team's hole at first base. If Hoskins were to land in Chicago, either he or Busch could get plenty of plate appearances at designated hitter -- particularly if Christopher Morel is traded.

2016
Last year was a mixed bag for Hoskins. He hit 30 homers, the second highest total of his career, but his 122 wRC+ was his second lowest in six MLB seasons. One reason is Hoskins stayed healthy for the first time since 2019. However, Hoskins didn't take full advantage with a career low fly ball rate. Sure, the personal high .292 BABIP was nice, but Hoskins' job is to hit the ball in the air, hopefully over the fence. His strikeout rate was a career high 25.1% with a 10.7% walk rate, just a tick better than last season's career low. While last season could have been better, Hoskins was still a solid fantasy asset with a skill set likely to provide similar results for a few years. The disclaimer for many players is not to pay for last season's stats. Doing so for Hoskins could earn a profit since he left some homers on the table. That said, his playoff exploits could help recover some of his lost allure.
